Clubhouse Door #2:
One on One Support
Let me walk beside you as you care or grieve for your Loved One.
“I honestly don’t know how I ever would have gotten through the passing of my father last year without you.
Most days I felt like you were the only one who understood me, and you completely normalised my situation, always asking me about how I was and not avoiding the question and pretending everything was OK. You gave me tips on how I could support my dad when his health started rapidly diminishing.
You were my voice of reason, providing me with clarity at a time in my life where simply getting through the day felt unsurmountable some days. I will forever be grateful for your friendship, and I will never forget the extent that you supported me during and after the death of my father. You will have a place in my heart forever.
Anyone would be lucky to have you as a carer doula. And anyone wondering if a carer doula is worthwhile, or if you are worthy? Heck yes and heck yes!”
— Emma Thistlethwayte, Sunshine Coast
Why
one on one support
for carers: the concept of a carer doula
When I was caring for my mum, I had no one that could relate to my experience. None of my friends or family had been a caregiver. I felt isolated and alone. I just yearned to have someone in my life that ‘got it’.
A few years after mum passed away, I used a birth doula for my third child’s birth. It was my first time using a doula and I LOVED IT. Someone who held space for me. Provided me with practical and emotional support.
This is what gave me the idea that carers also need doulas. Someone to hold space for them. To have a cuppa with,a space to ‘vent’, and someone who will do the dishes and hang out the laundry. Someone to help carers navigate through change and overwhelm.
Professionals such as mental health and social workers absolutely should be part of a caregiver or bereaved caregiver’s team. Just like midwives and doctors are part of a woman’s birth team. But adding a doula to the mix adds unmeasurable value to the individual’s experience.
This is where my one-on-one services come in.

A couple things to know …
You can book in to see me as a once off, weekly, monthly or bi-monthly. It’s really up to you! I know how caregiving can make life unpredictable, so there is no pressure on my end at all to lock in for a set amount of time.
If you do want to book in for 3 ongoing sessions, you’ll receive a free ticket to one of our in person or online Carers Club Circles.
Sessions can be gifted to carers or bereaved carers.
I’m here to care for YOU, not your Loved One. I know you’re already doing an amazing job at that. Give yourself permission to receive some care for yourself. You deserve it! Like the old cliché says, ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup’.
